  • What are your main insights and ideas from the given reading?

 

Rita Pierson, a forty year educator gives her insights on what it takes to be a teacher in today’s schools, and the empathy and understanding that effective teachers need to possess to be successful.

 

  • What unique terminology, jargon, buzzwords, and other concepts appear in this reading that require your careful attention and definition? What are your interpretations of these words and concepts?

 

There were no specific words or vocabulary that was used that needed to be explained; however the major point of the talk was that teachers need to possess the skill-sets of understanding and empathy and need to be able to connect on an emotional level with students prior to any real learning begins. This alone can be like a new language for many people, and teachers need to be able to equip themselves with these traits quickly, to be successful.

 

 

  • How does this reading challenge/expand/contradict your definition of (digital) storytelling?

 

This reading expands the definition of storytelling because Ms. Pierson demonstrates the qualities needed to be an effective teacher and tells her story about Teaching.

 

  • Having engaged this reading, what are you now curious about?

 

I am curious  about the traits needed to be an effective teacher and will continue to seek out learning opportunities about the subject and will practice newly found strategies in my classroom.

 

  • What questions are you asking, particularly about (digital) storytelling?

 

What are some of the best strategies to make connections with Every child in the classroom during a 60 minute period.
